Version 0.3.4
I am happy to announce I started working on more middle and late game systems. I had them planned for really long time, so it is exciting for me to finally start adding them to Goblin Resort.
It’s been a while since the last update and that’s because I felt I needed to do a lot of play testing and balancing. I simply dislike releasing the very rough parts, even though it is not a secret the game is still in development. I hope what I release in this version is going to serve as a good taste of what is to come in future. I have many things planned.
Achievements – Side Objectives
This is the first part of multiple systems I am going to be working on in following updates.
Unlike quests in many games, side objectives in Goblin Resort are not something you collect and keep track of. They are just passively going to be waiting for you to meet their requirements. I decided to call them Achievements since it is a pretty familiar concept to gamers these days.
Getting Achievements rewards you with Skill Points, which are going to be used in a Skill Tree (coming soon), and later on as requirements for progressing through the story.
To unlock this new feature, you will first need to advance through the initial part of the game – level up dungeon difficulty past the Baby Steps++ template.
After that, Skill Points are rewarded for completing various tasks while playing on Fiend Slayer’s Respect 3 and higher. What are those tasks you ask? Well, you get Achievements for doing things you have probably doing before such as collecting coins and gold, opening treasure chests and doors, destroying crates, and most importantly playing with different Curses. That’s right. Curses system very much compliments Achievements. The idea is you will need to keep playing around different Curses while playing on different dungeon templates. Finding just one optimal build to be used through the whole game is just not the way to go forward, so I hope you like experimenting and adapting.
So why did it take so long to release this update? I already mentioned I wanted to do a lot of play testing myself before I release it. In this update I added the first batch of Achievements – over 100 of them!
Achievements are added to completion percentage now. If you look at the details, you will see them listed with over 400 of them, but that’s because that calculation is for every Fiend Slayer’s Respect being played on. Don’t worry, you automatically get rewarded for lower respect levels if you get higher ones – keep in mind your risk-reward ratio.
There is going to be more Achievements added in future. I know this update might not be that exciting on its own given skill tree is not implemented, but I hope you will see it as a good starter course.
