Version 0.2.1

Version 0.2.1 of Goblin Resort is here! I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people who come back to check how the game is developing, and welcome any newcomers.

In grand scheme of things, this version number is still pretty low, but at the same time it is sort of a milestone to me. The following are changes made in this version:

Saving and Loading

Even though the game still doesn’t have adult content to work towards, I think there is enough gameplay content, and progression to finally introduce saving system. There are things implemented in the game that some players may not get to in one sitting such as later Dungeon Templates, and all the unlockable Seals.

At the start of the game you choose a save profile, and the game is going to autosave for you whenever you come back from a Dungeon Run, Unlock new Seals, or Reception Tag. You are given three save slots in case you want to try out different strategies instead of just committing to one save.

I do not plan to make saves work between different game versions until much closer to the completion, so don’t play thinking you can transfer your save to next version (saves are also not transferable between different platforms).

The game keeps changing, and I wouldn’t want someone to miss out on new early content, and run into balancing problems just because someone decided to use late game save from old development version. I hope you are going to keep coming back for new releases.

The completion percentage in this version is calculated from number of unlocked Seals, and Reception Tags. In future, skill tree upgrades, discovered rooms, unlocked cutscenes and completed side objectives are also going to be counted towards the completion percentage, so that number even for new game is going to be different.

Library location was going to be used for saving, and loading, but with autosave system implemented, it is going to be used for something else.

New Faces

I quadrupled the number of faces. There are now 64 potential faces for Guests. It should give bigger variety. Faces, and specifically eyes can range from simple shapes to some very basic expressions. Some of them have minor differences, so it is important to pay close attention. You can look at all faces at The Study Room.

Other Changes

  • Dungeon’s Gold indicator scales up or down depending on if you gained, or lost Gold.

  • Ability Seals were split into two categories; Abilities and Navigation Abilities. It should make it easier in narrowing down what type of Seals you unlock.

  • Positive Seal cost was lowered from 3 Seal Points to 2 Seal Points. My initial plan was to have the cost be lowered after unlocking a specific upgrade on skill tree (not implemented), but I realized it would make some people not spend any Seal Points until they get that. As for the reason why I think Positive Seals costing 2 points is better is because I keep adding more Seals, and after getting 3 points from a normal successful Dungeon Run you get more options on how you want to spend those points.

  • Title screen and Loading window had some adjustments

  • Seal “Unstable Coins” was renamed to “Thirsty Coins”.

  • Some Seals got rebalanced, or split into multiple Seals. More about new Seals in the next section.

New Seals

As of version 0.2.1 there 95 Seals. Here are the newest additions:

Positive Seals:

  • “+2s Time Limit”

  • “+3s Time Limit”

  • “+1s Max Extra Time”

  • “Weakened Lava”

  • “Time Lava”

  • “+1m Telekinesis Distance”

  • “+0.25m Telekinesis Distance”

  • “Tricky Catch” (old semi-secret mechanic turned into a seal)

Negative Seals

  • “Thirsty Doors”

  • “Thirsty Doors (Max)”

Some Seal names are more descriptive than others. I wrote descriptions of newly implemented Seals in devlogs before, but I think from now on I am just going to let players discover them as they play. You can consider yourself partially spoiled with just names.

Final Words

I am considering switching to biweekly updates to give myself more testing time, but I also don’t plan on sitting on releases if I have enough content to justify an update.

I welcome your comments, questions, and general feedback on how the game is shaping up. This project is gradually turning into something I am very proud of, and even though I am far from showing my full vision, in future I would possibly want this to become more feedback driven. I understand many people are interested in yet to be implemented adult content, but my plan from the start was to have a solid gameplay first.
